Program Overview The Healthy Lifestyles Program strives to create a path to healthy choices and life-styles for all students. Lake Travis ISD prides itself on educating the whole child. The District's Core Commitment III states that LTISD will establish an educational environment defined by high expectations that promote responsibility and accountability of students, staff and parents, and one that nurtures and motivates students to pursue their full potential in academic performance and citizenship.
As an overseeing body, the Healthy Lifestyles Program is charged to integrate and synthesize all of the district's Health Programs into a cohesive unit to benefit the health, character development and lifestyles choices of all students. The framework used to guide the community and the district in this task is a 'tool kit' established by The Search Institue called The Developmental Assets. LTISD calls this guide the Building Blocks, which consist of 40 assets/skills necessary to develop outstanding and productive youth. For more information on this framework, go to www.search-institute.com or click on the PDF attachment below.
The Challenge Course (ROPES) Program, counselor guidance lessons and special presentations periodically integrated into each campus' schedule embed the Lake Travis ISD Character Traits that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and character development.
Health and Physical Education is comprehensive education (K-12) focusing on student awareness of their own health and well-being. Through the stated-mandated FitnessGram and the TEA Health TEKS, students learn about physical, social and emotional development in order to assist them in making healthy life-style choices and avoid making destructive decisions.
The School Health Advisory Council meets quarterly to discuss and review all initiatives impacting the developmental programming for students.
