Dear Lake Travis ISD Students, Parents and Community:
On August 22nd, over 7,000 students, age kindergarten thru twelfth grade, will walk through the front doors of our schools to begin the school year. In doing so, they will be taking advantage of a multitude of wonderful educational opportunities provided by our community. For the second consecutive year, by virtue of our students’ outstanding academic success, the District has earned an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency. And as school districts across Texas begin the transition from TAKS to the new State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness—also known as STAAR, our District will retain its Exemplary rating through the 2012-2013 school year as defined by the TEA. It is certainly a reason to celebrate!
And speaking of celebration, the 2011-2012 school year also marks the establishment of the Lake Travis Independent School District some 30 years ago. In recognition of this milestone, the LTISD administration has begun to plan a series of community events throughout the coming school year that will commemorate our District’s long-standing tradition of excellence. More information about our 30th anniversary is available on the LTISD website.
The start of each school year is an exciting time because of the energy our students, staff, parents and community members bring to it—and all the possibilities that working together provides. Our school district excels above many others because our parents, teachers, staff and community do a remarkable job of supporting our students and setting high expectations.
As you may already know, this past May, a citizens’ advisory committee comprised of men and women representing each elementary and secondary school attendance zone recommended that a $158.5 million bond package be called by the LTISD Board of Trustees for a November election.a 27-member citizens’ advisory committee comprised of men and women representing each elementary and secondary school attendance zone recommended We look forward to sharing more information with you about the bond during our community presentations scheduled later this fall.
While we conduct a search for the District’s next superintendent, please know that we remain fully committed to the community we serve, and we will continue to do everything possible to ensure each student’s academic and extracurricular success. We want our students to know how much it matters to us that they possess character, integrity and purpose for their lives, and we want to have confidence that we have prepared them well to be trustworthy, hard-working, wise and capable of honorable service to their family, community and nation. We applaud your decision to call LTISD your home.
All the best as we begin a new school year!
Sincerely,
Jason Buddin Susan Bohn
