Visual Poetry
students were asked to create a visual composition using a variety of mediums that led the viewer arund the art work.  they used thier initials as a start and added layers to add depth to the work!  great job!!

Portraits based on the work of CHucK CloSe! 

We studied the importance VALUE has on creating realistic life drawing.  We looked at the work of Chuck Close, who uses the grid system to create amazing and innovative ways of looking at the portrait.   The kids did an excellent job! 
Final Clay Projects!
6th, 7th, and 8th graders are quite skilled in clay after working and preparing for our clay sale.  Now they get to show thier stuff by creating a self directed clay project of their own design!  They are coming out great. 

Printmaking and Collage: An Exploration of Animals in their Environment

6th grade students explore their favorite animal and their environment in these exciting compositions.  They began in the library learning about the animals, and then were asked to come up with 20 adjectives to describe the animal.  We studied linoleum block printmaking, oil pastels, and collage to create these works. We used recycled dictionaries to create collage elements in the background!They did an excellent job!

CLAY!!!!!

In preparation for our 3rd Annual Clay sale ON DECEMBER 15th! 4-6 in the Art Room, the students have been learning all about clay.  It's going great!  WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Oil Painting, and exploration of color and form

Our first project of the year was to explore the concepts involved in color theory, color mixing and how to use color to achieve appealing visual compositions.  The students were given an actual slice of watermelon and asked to draw all sides of the fruit.  Then they used oil paints to paint their composition.  They did a great job!

Batik and Design
Advanced art students created traditional Indonesian Batiks with hand sewn embellishments, thanks to a generous donation by a wonderful MOM!!  The kids had to show three different perspectives of one idea, and using hot wax, fabric dyes and muslin cotton, they created these wonderful works!

PEN and INK
We created interesting pen and ink designs with the intention of moving the viewers eye around the page.  The color is added with fabric dyes and the kids were studying line and movement!  they are pretty cool!

One point perspective and the multi media drawing
6th grade artists created a one point perspective drawing that had to hold meaning in their lives.  They used a variety of different mediums and then added textural elements to their compositions!  They are cute and we learned a LOT, about art and each other!!
