Dr. Abbott began her career in public education in 1996, serving as a special education teacher with the Fort Stockton and Killeen school districts.  After a brief tenure with the Gatesville school district as a teacher in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities, she served as a diagnostician in the Huntsville and Conroe school districts.  While at Conroe ISD, Dr. Abbott served in various capacities including Lead Diagnostician for Secondary Schools, Coordinator of Special Education, and Assistant Director of Special Education Services.  Before coming to LTISD, she served as Project Coordinator for Compliance and Regional Day School Program for the Deaf with Education Service Center Region 13.

She earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from Texas Lutheran University, a Master’s of Education degree from Sul Ross State University, and a Doctorate in Literacy from Sam Houston State University.
