Counselor Connection - Feb. 2024
Respect for All Week always makes my heart soar with the teachings of inclusion and respecting others. From January 22-26, Lakeway Elementary School held our Respect for All Week. It is a time where students learn about the background of others. We use this particular week to educate our students about the Holocaust and take the time to celebrate differences and diversity. Our students bring to our school community the richness of cultural diversity as well as independent diversity in terms of perspective, interests, learning styles and talents. Every one of them desires inclusion and respect.
Our 5th graders are visiting Hudson Bend Middle School on February 2nd for their Fine Arts Showcase. They will be able to experience a variety of electives which will help them in course selection. Additionally, they will be taking a tour of the school. This is a day filled with many emotions for our Mustangs with feelings of wonderment, excitement, and also nervousness. In the coming weeks, they will be selecting their courses in Skyward. Our 5th grade parents will be receiving more information on that topic.
Career Day is scheduled this year for March 22nd. A Google Form for sign ups will be going out so please complete it if you are able to join us for this special day. This is a fantastic way to provide students with first-hand knowledge of potential career paths. It is never too early to inspire young minds! This is a great way for parents and community members to get involved at Lakeway Elementary and make an impact on the future of our students.
Counselor Corral lessons have been completed where we learned new skills to help in controlling their words and bodies in certain situations is the goal of this lesson. Kinders through second grades learned about impulse control with a dinosaur theme called “Blurt-osaurus. For third through fifth grades, we talked about the Circle of Control referencing the book Alexander and the Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. In the coming weeks, we will be focusing on exploring different careers as we move towards Career Day.
