Andy Michael, Chief of Police/Director of Security
Mr. Michael joined Lake Travis ISD in 2018, serving as Safety and Security Coordinator. He helped introduce the Standard Response Protocol districtwide—a proven method of uniform language and actions used by students, staff, and first responders during school incidents. Mr. Michael was also instrumental in the implementation of student ID badges districtwide. Prior to joining Lake Travis ISD, he spent 28 years in law enforcement and is a veteran of the United States Air Force. Mr. Michael served the Austin Police Department (APD) for 22 years as a police officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and division commander prior to his retirement. As a commander at APD, he served in a leadership role for hundreds of officers in numerous units, including Patrol, Internal Affairs, Special Operations, Police Technology, Risk Management, Training, and Recruiting.
Mr. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University in West Virginia. He and his wife Trish have lived in Lake Travis for 23 years, and they have two children.
As Chief of Police/Director of Security, Mr. Michael will oversee the District’s safety and security program and coordinate emergency operations and response plans; direct and manage the District’s police department; coordinate efforts with other law enforcement officers; and ensure enforcement of all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
