HOUSE BILL 4545 (HB 4545)

  • In June 2021, the Texas legislature passed House Bill (HB) 4545 which updated Texas Education Code (TEC) 28.0211. It is now required for Accelerated Instruction (AI) to be implemented for students who did not perform satisfactorily or did not take the STAAR or high school end-of-course exams.

In accordance with state law, a total of 30 hours of supplemental instruction will be provided during the school year and/or during the summer as needed. This instruction will be focused on the STAAR/EOC area(s) identified and will occur at least one time per week. State law requires this accelerated instruction, and it cannot be waived.  For any student who does not pass the STAAR test in grades 3, 5, or 8 in math or reading, the school district is required to establish an accelerated learning committee to develop an individual educational plan for the student and monitor progress.
