- Highlights from the January 18 School Board Meeting
-
-
Lake Travis ISD is grateful to its many parent volunteers who contribute their time, talent, and treasure to support the district. To open the meeting, our school board proudly recognized four individuals for their remarkable efforts and long-standing dedication to our students and staff: Shelley McCannon, Heather Swanson, Courtney Thomas and Susan Whitenack. Although having volunteered in individual capacities for many years, collectively—by the end of the current school year, these ladies will have prepared made-from-scratch food, decorated rooms and spaces, and served staff at more than 100 events at Hudson Bend Middle School and Lake Travis High School combined, totaling more than 23,000 meals. During COVID, these ladies cooked holiday meals for staff at both schools to take home to their respective families; it was a total of 685 meals that were prepared. These ladies continue to serve for the fellowship and friendships they have made with other parent volunteers as well as with the staff at each of the schools their own children attended years ago. On behalf of our school board and the entire LT family, we applaud and thank these outstanding parent volunteers!
- The school board approved an order calling the May 6, 2023 Board of Trustees Election. Under the Election Code, the election must be ordered annually by the Board of Trustees. This election is to fill positions designated on the school board as Places 6 and 7 for full, three-year terms. For more information about this election, visit the Lake Travis ISD website (under “Leadership > Board of Trustees”).
- The board also approved the 2023 - 2024 Instructional Calendar. The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 16, 2023 and the last day of instruction will be Friday, May 24, 2024. Ending the year in May allows staff and students to meet commitments related to summer school, post-secondary summer studies, and other summer programs which begin in early June. Please note, TEA will release its application for Professional Development waivers this spring. We will request three full days (no school for students) and four days early release for students. Additionally, bad weather minutes have been "banked" and are included in the calendar. The 2023-2024 instructional calendar is available on the District website and on each school website (listed under ‘Calendars’)
- The board adopted a listing of legislative priorities for the 88th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature. The document is designed to be the basis for the District’s legislative work during the regular session from January 10 to May 29, 2023. Our Legislative Priorities are available on the LTISD website.

- Bond Sale Information and Advertisement
-
-
Last month, our school board adopted an order authorizing the issuance of Lake Travis Independent School District Unlimited Tax School Building Bonds in one or more series by delegated sale. This provides us with the opportunity to efficiently manage our November 8, 2022 bond authorization by breaking down our capacity into multiple issuances. The amount will not exceed $315 million of fixed rate, unlimited tax school building bonds. The bond proceeds will be used to pay for the construction of two elementary schools, design of high school #2, district safety and security upgrades, transportation vehicles, technology upgrades, and replacement projects. Additional details regarding the sale of these bonds is available on our official advertisement which is posted on the LTISD website.

- Update on Vail Divide Extension Project
- We are excited to share that the Vail Divide Extension Project is almost complete. The roadway will connect Hamilton Pool Road with State Highway 71, providing much needed relief to motorists in and around our schools. While it may appear to be finished, the road remains under construction and is currently closed to all traffic until all work is complete. Notification will be provided at that time.

- Did You Know?
- Lake Travis Elementary School’s mascot was not always the Squires. When Lake Travis ISD was established in 1981, LTE’s mascot was the Eagles. It wasn’t until a few years later that LTE changed its mascot to better align with the established Middle Ages-themed mascots of the Lake Travis Middle School Knights and the Lake Travis High School Cavaliers.
