Norton's Notes - January 27, 2023

    • Safety Audits Today
    • The Texas School Safety Center routinely conducts safety audits throughout the state, requiring exterior doors to be checked on a weekly basis. We perform these safety checks twice a week at all of our campuses.

    • Today, audits were conducted at Hudson Bend Middle School and Serene Hills Elementary School. While HBMS had no findings, SHE had one finding.

    • All of the doors at SHE were checked and locked this morning prior to 8:30 am. When the auditor inspected the doors, they were all locked however one door did not fully lock due to a mechanical error. When the auditor returned to the same door, the lock worked properly, was secure and the auditor was not able to open it. Our maintenance team checked the door this afternoon and ensured it is locking correctly.

    • Please be assured that student safety is our number one priority. We will continue to check all campus doors at least twice a week.

    • Bond Sale Information
    • On Thursday, January 26, we sold $300 million in municipal bonds at an interest yield of 3.93%. We had a large number of investors interested in our District which resulted in a low interest cost on the bonds.

    • Update on Vail Divide Expansion Project
      • We are excited to share that the Vail Divide Extension Project is almost complete. The roadway will connect Hamilton Pool Road with State Highway 71, providing much needed relief to motorists in and around our schools. While it may appear to be finished, the road remains under construction and is currently closed to all traffic until all work is complete. Notification will be provided at that time.

    • LTHS Theatre Arts Spring Production
    • The Lake Travis High School Theater Arts Department is excited to present its spring production of “Legally Blonde: The Musical.” There are 3 more opportunities to see the show: Jan. 27, 28 and 30. All performances will be held at the Lake Travis Performing Arts Center. Tickets can be purchased online.

    • Did You Know?
    • We currently have 453 substitutes to serve our students. We are very appreciative of the number of people who have become substitutes, supporting our staff and students. In addition, our HR department created Annual Sub positions that report to work everyday to help provide coverage when a substitute is not available. These positions and all of our substitutes are invaluable to our school community. Our next Sub University is scheduled for February 9. If you are interested in becoming a substitute and have 60 college credit hours, please visit our HR website
