Norton's Notes - March 28, 2024

  • LTMS participates in annual Day of Service

    • Since 2017, students at Lake Travis Middle School have participated in a “Day of Service,” an effort to demonstrate gratitude for the support the school receives from the community.

    • More than 900 students participated in the school’s 2024 Day of Service held Thursday, March 28. Students earned a minimum of two hours of community service by visiting numerous non-profit and service organizations throughout Lake Travis and greater Austin areas.

    • Thank you to our students, faculty sponsors, and volunteer parents for their amazing efforts and for representing LTISD throughout our community.

District Career Fair a Big Success

Update on potential change to HS #2

    • During the March 20, 2024 school board meeting, a representative from school demographer Population And Survey Analysts (PASA) provided trustees with an update to the 2023-2024 Demographic Study. The presentation highlighted potential changes to the campus capacity of the voter-approved High School #2. The update comes as a result of Travis County’s pending purchase of two significant parcels of land within LTISD boundaries. These two parcels include more than 2,100 acres for conservation purposes. Therefore, the planned development of more than 2,400 homes in these locations will not occur as PASA initially projected. Our demographer now projects that LTISD will have approximately 5,000 high school students when the District reaches build out as opposed to the 5,500 originally projected.

    • Following our demographer’s presentation, a representative with VLK Architects provided an update on the design phase of the High School #2 campus. Taking into consideration the county’s pending purchase, it was discussed potentially building High School #2 in two separate phases. Phase 1 would be built to accommodate 1,500 students. If and when needed, Phase 2 would be built to accommodate an additional 500 students. It is anticipated that trustees will take action on the change to the campus capacity for High School #2 during the April 17 school board meeting.

    • A letter with more information was emailed to parents on March 28 and is available on our website.

Friday, March 29 is Student/Staff Holiday

    • We wish all our families a safe and relaxing Easter weekend.

District to Close April 8 for Solar Eclipse

    • As you may already know, due to a number of safety and operational concerns surrounding the total solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, we have made the decision to close schools for all students and staff.

    • Because we have reserved a sufficient number of instructional minutes for the current school year, students will not be required to make up this day.

    • It is our sincere hope that staff, students, and families across Lake Travis ISD will safely witness this celestial phenomenon and create lasting memories together.
