Welcome to Mrs. Dawkins' Dazzling Library!
I’m so excited about the being the librarian at Serene Hills. It is a dream come true for me! I love learning and living life to the fullest extent! I will spread my enthusiasm for learning and reading to your child!
I graduated from The University of Texas in Austin with a BS in Elementary Education and received my Master's degree in Library and Information Science from Texas Woman's University. This will be my 30th year with the district. This is my twelveth year as a librarian at Serene Hills Elementary. Over 19 years of teaching, I taught first, second and fourth grades. I have spent many years writing curriculum for the district so I’m very familiar with what is being taught at the elementary level. This year, I will be celebrating 35 years of marriage with my husband, Don. We have two wonderful daughters, Megan who graduated from Texas A&M with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Hannah is a sophmore at Texas State University. My family and I are all water lovers. We have a weekend home on Lake Buchanan which we spend as much of our free time out sailing and enjoying water sports. I enjoy reading, sailing, biking, gardening, hiking, kayaking and spending time with my family and friends.
I look forward to working with your child!
Be smarter than ever when you read for fun over the summer!
The best way to become a better reader is to spend time reading!
Did you know that when kids don’t read over the summer they are likely to fall behind when they head back to school? These learning losses are often called the “Summer Slide,” and our school has made it a priority to keep our students’ skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long. Spending just 20 minutes of reading time each day will make a dramatic difference in your child’s success in the coming school years.
This summer reading packet contains booklists, activities, community library programs, and even an ice cream recipe! We hope you also visit the elementary librarian Schoology group to find additional resources, books, and activities.Have a great summer, Sailors!Click here for a fun Summer Reading Challenge and links to the Lake Travis Community and Bee Cave Public libraries reading programs.
Remember to visit our local libraries for after school and weekend hours.
Volunteer in the Library
Our library is dependent on volunteers to run effectively. To volunteer in the library means to help our whole school.
We need you!
