District of Innovation
A District of Innovation is a designation established by the 84th Texas Legislative Session (House Bill 1842) that provides traditional public school districts with many of the flexibilities available to open-enrollment charter schools. This designation allows districts to exercise local control by seeking exemptions from certain state requirements that may limit their ability to meet district goals. For Lake Travis ISD, becoming a District of Innovation provides the flexibility to implement innovative practices and make decisions that best support the unique needs of our students, staff, and community.
Committee Members
The 2026-2030 District of Innovation Plan Renewal was developed through the work of the Advisory Committee on Education (ACE), composed of 29 stakeholders, including 13 parents, 3 students, 3 community members, and 10 staff members. The Board passed a resolution appointing the ACE Committee to serve in this role and carry out the work of developing the plan. The committee met this spring to review the current plan and develop the renewal. Through thoughtful input, meaningful discussion, and diverse perspectives, the committee’s work directly informed and shaped the development of this plan. Their collaboration helped ensure the plan leverages the flexibilities available to us, promoting local control, encouraging innovation, and identifying opportunities to pursue exemptions that better support our goals.
