Frequently Asked Questions

LTISD offers full-day Pre-K for students who will turn 4 years old on or before September 1st of the school year. Students who will turn 5 years old on or before September 1st will be enrolled in kindergarten instead of Pre-K.

Yes.  LTISD offers half-day Pre-K for 3-year-old students who qualify for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE). If you have concerns about your child's physical, speech, cognitive, or emotional development, please visit the Lake Travis ISD Child Find page for more information about Preschool referrals and special education.

There is no tuition charge for 3-year-olds enrolled in the ECSE program.

No. Drop-in speech services do not automatically qualify a 3-year-old for enrollment in an ECSE Pre-K classroom.

If a family does not qualify for free Pre-K, we do offer a tuition-based Pre-K program for 4-year-olds. Tuition is $6,500 per year. Payment is divided into nine payments between September and May of each school year.  

There is no tuition charge for Pre-K students who meet one of the criteria listed below.

• has a limited ability to speak and/or comprehend the English language (ESL); or
• is homeless; or
• whose family income allows the child to qualify for free or reduced lunch; or
• is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
• is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; 
• is the child of a military parent who is missing in action or who has died.
• is a child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award
• is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.
• is the child of a classroom teacher in LTISD.

Applications for free Pre-K cannot be collected until April 1 for the upcoming school year. For example, if a parent wishes to enroll their child for the school year beginning in August 2026, we cannot collect any qualification information for free Pre-K until April 1, 2026.

Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, Pre-K will be offered at five LTISD campuses:  Lake Pointe Elementary, Lake Travis Elementary, Lakeway Elementary, Serene Hills Elementary, and West Cypress Hills Elementary.  

The 2026-2027 feeder patterns for Prekindergarten students will be as follows, space permitting:

• Lake Travis Elementary attendance zone attends Pre-K at Lake Travis Elementary.
• Serene Hills Elementary and portions of Rough Hollow Elementary attendance zones attend Pre-K at Serene Hills Elementary. 
• West Cypress Hills Elementary and portions of Rough Hollow Elementary attendance zones attend Pre-K at West Cypress Hills Elementary. 
• Lakeway Elementary attendance zone attends Pre-K at Lakeway Elementary. 
• Lake Pointe Elementary and Bee Cave Elementary attendance zones attend Pre-K at Lake Pointe Elementary.

If space is not available at a particular campus, tuition-based placement is facilitated by a computer-generated lottery system, one entry per child.

Lake Travis ISD will soon be accepting applications for out-of district transfer students for the 2026-27 school year.

Yes. We offer a dual language program for native Spanish speakers at Lake Travis Elementary. 

Yes. Lake Travis ISD Pre-K teachers meet the certification requirements for early childhood education in the state of Texas.  

The start time for Pre-K is 7:40 am, and the end time is 3:00 pm. Pre-K follows the same schedule and school calendar as the elementary school. 

Yes. Pre-K students are required to attend school and are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements as long as they remain enrolled.

Yes. Pre-K students are eligible for enrollment in the LTISD Extended Care program, which is an after school child care service provided each day that school is in session. No. At this time, transportation is not provided for Pre-K students.

Yes. LTISD offers special education and Section 504 services to students who qualify.

Special education includes specially designed instruction and related services provided for students who have one or more of the following disabilities according to federal criteria and who also have a demonstrated educational need for special education services:

• Speech Impairment
• Orthopedic Impairment
• Other Health Impairment
• Intellectual Disability
• Emotional Disturbance
• Autism
• Multiple Disabilities

Yes. However, your Pre-K teacher will work with each family on an individual basis to help your child become successfully independent at school should they encounter any challenges.  

Yes. Students in the 4-year-old Pre-K classrooms have lunchtime built into their daily schedule. Parents may purchase both breakfast and lunch from the school or send a meal with their child.

Yes. Pre-K students have rest/nap time each day.

Yes. Pre-K teachers follow the Circle Pre-K Curriculum, which fully addresses all Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines.
