About the PAC

History

The Lake Travis Performing Arts Center is the organization within Lake Travis ISD which is made up of three theaters and an expansive array of support facilities for those theaters. In it's current configuration, the Performing Arts Center consists of a 1500-seat Concert Hall, a Black Box Theater with flexible seating, and the 275-seat Recital Hall. It also includes large rehearsal spaces, lobbies and dressing rooms at each theater, and centralized facilities for scenic construction, an electrics shop, audio recording facilities, costume and props shops, and craft service support.

There was a theater within Lake Travis ISD before the formation of the PAC. In 1984, a 275-seat proscenium theater was included as part of construction of a secondary school campus for the young Lake Travis ISD. In 1988 that campus began functioning as a middle school, when a seperate high school was constructed adjacent to the original building. The original theater has been known by several names through the years, but became part of the Performing Arts Center in 2015, and re-named the Recital Hall, when the building was absorbed by the high school.

The LTPAC's flagship venue, the 1500-seat Concert Hall launched the Performing Arts Center, as it also included the bulk of the support facilities that enable our productions to take the stage.  This facility was dedicated on February 6, 2000 in a large community celebration. The Concert Hall, originally known as the "high school auditorium", has clearly outgrown it's original moniker to become a venue that hosts a wide-variety of performances and special events featuring all levels of LTISD students, as well as community and professional groups.

The Black Box Theater was added in 2008 as part of an expansion of Lake Travis High School which included a Fine Arts Wing. This wing features larger rehearsal/teaching spaces for all of the fine arts in addition to the Black Box Theater and lobby addition.

Together, these three venues now host over 150 audience events annually. They offer LTISD students the unique opportunity to perform and train in theaters of multiple configurations, which supports curricular goals of creating well-rounded artists. These facilities also allow LTPAC to offer the right venue for virtually any type of performance.

Technical Staff

The technicians and designers at the PAC are students in the Technical Theatre program at Lake Travis High School. The Technical Theatre program has over 250 students enrolled across a rigorous, comprehensive, four-year set of courses. The extra curricular arm of the Technical Theatre program is organized as a student chapter of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology. In addition to supporting the many productions and special events that occur in the PAC's theaters, these student technicians engage in fundraising efforts to support the Behind the Scene Charity, teambuilding opportunities, and educational field trips where they have connected with industry professionals from around the world. All of these development opportunities outside of the classroom have built one the largest and most dynamic programs of it's kind in the state, and consistently produce incredibly skilled technicians and leaders.
