Safety & Security Committee

About the Committee

Passed by the Texas Legislature in 2019, Senate Bill 11 adds requirements and resources with respect to several school safety issues including threat assessment, parental involvement, mental health support, safety planning and security personnel. The bill also requires public school districts to establish a safety and security committee.

Historically, Lake Travis ISD had a safety and security committee that met annually. The committee has been redesigned to meet the new legislative requirements. The committee will meet three times per year to work with district officials and community stakeholders to address the important task of school safety. Members will provide input into school safety and security measures that are of vital concern to our students, parents, schools, and community.

The first meeting of the Lake Travis ISD Safety and Security Committee was held Monday, December 16, 2019 at the Educational Development Center. All meetings are subject to the Texas Open Meetings Act, including relevant exceptions to the Act.

Questions or concerns regarding the LTISD Safety and Security Committee should be addressed to Todd Sumrall, Director of Security/Interim Chief of Police, at sumrallt@ltisdschools.org or at 512-533-5758.
