Dyslexia
Lake Travis Independent School District offers dyslexia services to students identified with dyslexia at each campus. The District utilizes a variety of instructional models to meet the needs of students with dyslexia, including pull-out dyslexia instruction, reading acceleration classes, and classroom accommodations. The goal of these services is to facilitate the development of skills and compensation strategies which will enable students with dyslexia to become independent, proficient readers.
In addition to the provision of reading instruction to students with dyslexia, the District also affords educators and parents professional development opportunities in the area of Dyslexia.

Definition:
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. These difficulties typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the provision of effective classroom instruction. Secondary consequences may include problems in reading comprehension and reduced reading experience that can impede the growth of vocabulary and background knowledge.
