Early Childhood Special Education
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) is a special education program that serves children between the ages of 3 and 5 who have delays in the areas of speech, language, physical, social, and/or emotional development. These children have been identified as being at risk of not achieving academic or life skills without intervention. Services for children served through Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) are dependent on student need but can include daily structured activities that develop language (expressive and receptive), motor (fine and gross), and self-help skills.
Lake Travis ISD has a variety of programming options as outlined below:
Drop-In Speech Services
These services are provided to students ages 3-5 who are identified with a speech impairment and require specially designed instruction from a speech-language pathologist, but do not require a social/group based instructional model to make meaningful progress.
Location: Child’s home campus, unless otherwise specified
Language and Literacy in Preschool (LLIPs)
Language and literacy rich program designed for children ages 3-5 who exhibit an expressive and/or receptive language delay and are otherwise typically developing. Student’s other areas of development are considered “typical” for age and gender (typically no biomedical condition). The focus of the program is not on fine and gross motor skills, self-help skills or pre-academics. The program includes support for motor impairments related to communication, such as childhood apraxia of speech as well as severe phonological disorders.
Location: Serene Hills Elementary
