Hello Mustang students and parents. My name is Neal Shotwell, your campus nurse at Lakeway Elementary. I began my tenure at LWE in the Fall of 2018 and absolutely love being a Mustang! I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Hardin-Simmons University and began my professional life as a science teacher. I served a total of 13 years as an educator, teaching middle school science, 5th grade science, and elementary Special Education before making the decision to attend graduate school to pursue my nursing degree. In 2010 I entered the University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, earning my RN license in 2011 and completing my Master of Science in Nursing degree with a major in Child Health in December, 2012. From 2013 through 2018 I worked as a private duty nurse caring for chronically ill and medically fragile children, and also served for two-and-a-half years as a school nurse substitute in Lake Travis ISD. In addition to my nursing duties I also own and operate a small business, Acoustic Chemistry Productions, which is a creative outlet for my various musical activities: playing drums and percussion, and providing professional audio recording and production services. When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my son Willie and our dog, a chocolate lab named Sheldon.
