STAAR Information

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Students across the state of Texas participated in the STAAR/EOC state assessments this spring. Federal and state laws require that all students participate in summative assessments in grades 3 -8 and in specific high school courses. Your child’s STAAR score provides you with assurance that your child is prepared to enter the next grade level through the student’s mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for a given course and determines college and career readiness at the high school level. Finally, the results provide educators and administrators with uniform information about where to focus resources and instruction to meet the needs of each student - especially in the core subjects being taught for the following school year.
This year, the STAAR/EOC was redesigned to better align with classroom instruction and to allow students to better demonstrate their learning. Due to the redesign, reporting of final test results for the spring STAAR assessments will take a bit longer this year because educators from across the state will meet to provide their expert opinions on the passing scores for the redesigned assessments prior to Texas Education Agency (TEA) providing results to districts and families. STAAR results will be available on a later timeline this year with complete results available at the start of the 2023-2024 school year in August 2023.
For students who participated in STAAR for grades 3-8:

April & May STAAR results are expected to be available in the state's online Family Portal on August 16, 2023. Your student’s last year's scores will show if you access the Family Portal prior to this date. 3rd-grade students will not show any scores if you try to access the portal early.
