Correspondence Courses

  • Overview: Correspondence courses provide an alternative method for high school students to earn course credit outside the regular classroom setting.
  • Student Eligibility: Available exclusively to students currently enrolled in Grades 9–12. An 8th-grade student is not considered a 9th-grade student until they have fully completed all 8th-grade course requirements.
  • Credit Limit: Students may earn a maximum of three credits toward graduation via correspondence courses.
  • Approved Institutions: Courses must be completed through an allowable public institution of higher education approved by the Commissioner of Education, including The University of Texas, Texas Tech University, or the Texas Virtual School Network (TxVSN).
  • Administrative Form & Student Responsibility: Requires completion of the High School Alternative Method of Credit Form. It is the sole responsibility of the student to register for, order, pay for, and complete the course.
  • Transcript & GPA Rules: The course grade is posted to the student's transcript but is not calculated into the GPA. Credit is not officially completed until the campus registrar's office records the final grade report.
  • Middle School Restriction: Correspondence courses are strictly prohibited for middle school acceleration.
