Austin Public Health confirms first case of measles in Austin

Earlier today, Friday, February 28, Austin Public Health (APH) confirmed the first case of measles in Austin. Additionally, the Texas Department of State Health Services has reported a total of 146 measles cases statewide, with 20 individuals hospitalized. Sadly, this week, a school-age child in Texas lost their life to this highly contagious virus.

Please know that our intent in sharing this information is not to cause alarm, but rather to reaffirm our commitment to the health and well-being of our staff, students, and families. As the measles outbreak in Texas continues, APH urges all of us to remain informed and vigilant. We encourage you to take a moment to review important information about measles, which is available on our district website.

With your support, we remain dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school nurse or family physician.

Sincerely,

Jamie Ennis, BSN, RN
