School board names Dr. Curtis Null as permanent superintendent
At a special called meeting held Thursday, May 22, the Lake Travis ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Dr. Curtis Null as the permanent Superintendent of Schools.
Dr. Null brings a wealth of experience and a strong record of educational leadership to Lake Travis. Most recently, he served as Superintendent of Conroe ISD, the seventh-largest school district in Texas, where he oversaw more than 73,000 students and 10,000 employees. During his 24-year tenure in Conroe, Dr. Null served in multiple roles including teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and deputy superintendent.
“I am humbled and honored to be selected by the Lake Travis school board as Superintendent of Schools,” said Dr. Null. “Lake Travis ISD is an outstanding school district with a rich and deep-rooted tradition of success in academics, athletics, and fine arts. This is a privilege and responsibility which I do not take lightly, and I look forward to serving the staff, students, and families of this great community.”
Dr. Null becomes the eighth superintendent in Lake Travis ISD history. He holds degrees from the University of Houston (B.A. and Ed.D.), the University of Florida (M.Ed. in Sports Medicine), and certifications from Sam Houston State University. Dr. Null and his wife, Tanya—a prekindergarten teacher—have two children, both graduates of Conroe ISD.
“With assistance from JG Consulting, we found a leader of outstanding character and proven results,” said LTISD Board President Lauren White. “Dr. Null brings extensive experience, a commitment to student success, and a passion for public education. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Lake Travis family and are confident in his ability to lead our district forward.”
The superintendent search began in February 2025 following the board’s appointment of Dr. Steve Flores as interim superintendent. Over the course of the search, the board gathered input from stakeholders, reviewed 38 applications, and conducted interviews with top candidates. Dr. Null was named lone finalist on May 1 in accordance with Texas law, which requires a 21-day waiting period before a contract may be officially offered and accepted. Dr. Null will officially assume his duties as Superintendent of Schools on Monday, June 2.
“On behalf of my colleagues on the school board, I want to thank Dr. Flores for his leadership and investment in our district during this transitional period,” added Ms. White. “We are eager for Dr. Null to begin his tenure and are excited about the future of our district.”
