Board accepts superintendent's resignation, will appoint interim and begin search for permanent leader

In December, a complaint of misconduct was made against Lake Travis ISD Superintendent Paul Norton. The Lake Travis ISD Board of Trustees immediately placed Mr. Norton on administrative leave and retained an independent firm, Marla Moore, PLLC, to investigate the allegation. That investigation is now complete. The complaint did not relate to students or district finances.

After careful consideration by the Board and legal counsel, and a thorough review of the investigation’s findings, the Board has voted to accept Mr. Norton’s voluntary resignation. Under the terms agreed to, Mr. Norton will resign and retire effective immediately. He will be paid through the end of the 2024-2025 school year. A copy of the agreement is available for review. This decision was made with the best interest of the district in mind. The Board believes these actions will save money, time, and resources and allow the district to quickly pursue hiring a new superintendent.

The Board will retain a recruiting firm to conduct a comprehensive search for a permanent superintendent. Community and stakeholder input will be important elements of the search. Through this time, the Board extends gratitude to Pam Sanchez, LTISD Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, who has been serving as Acting Superintendent while continuing as district Chief Financial Officer. We will soon be appointing an interim superintendent to fill the role until the executive search is completed.

On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees, we greatly appreciate the support of LTISD parents, staff, and the community as we continue to serve the district’s 11,000 students.

Sincerely,

Erin Archer
President, Lake Travis ISD School Board
