The Lake Travis Sports Medicine program is a critical part of the overall success of Cavalier athletic programs. Athletic Trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who render service or treatment, under the direction of or in collaboration with a physician, in accordance with their education, training and the state statutes, rules and regulations. As a part of the health care team, services provided by athletic trainers include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. The athletic trainers work directly with LTISD athletes to help improve functional outcomes and specialize in patient education to prevent injury and re-injury. Student athletic trainers assist the ATs in all aspects of sports medicine. They help provide care at all athletic events, whether it be practices or games. Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association, Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) and the Department of Human Health and Services (HHS). The Athletic Training Room is located at the Women's Field House, attached to the main weight room and Cavalier Stadium.
