District issues warning of phishing practices using teacher email accounts

January 5, 2023

Dear Lake Travis ISD Parents and Guardians,

I hope you and your family had a restful holiday break. It has been brought to our attention that a phishing email was recently sent from multiple Lake Travis ISD teacher accounts. The email referenced a potential job opportunity which included a link that attempted to gather personal information. If you or your student has received this email, please mark it as “phishing” and delete it from your inbox.

Specifically, the email subject line reads “PART-TIME JOB OPPORTUNITY” and encourages “All email recipients of Lake Travis High School or anyone interested are encouraged to be a part of this amazing offer.” The email includes a link to “Apply Here” and a signature from the Lake Travis teacher. While the email account itself appears to be from a legitimate District employee, please know the email contents are spam and potentially harmful. This particular email has been contained and phishing links have been blocked within the District. As with all spam email you may receive whether inside or outside the District’s network, you should never click on any links or respond to any solicitation for personal information.

Rest assured, we take this matter seriously. Together with our Information Technology Department, the Lake Travis ISD Police Department is conducting a full investigation and will pursue all necessary steps to maintain the integrity of our cybersecurity systems. If you have already clicked on the “Apply Here” link, and provided any personal/banking information, or sent or received any payments, please contact LTISD Officer Ken Casaday at, or 512-533-7708.
