District shares ridership eligibility and responses to frequently asked questions regarding transportation services for 2023-2024 school year

September 5, 2023

We hope you and your child have had a great start to the new school year. We know some of you have questions about our transportation services, especially our families who reside within two miles of your child’s home campus. Here are some of the frequently asked questions we have received; we hope you will find our responses helpful in understanding the scope of our transportation services.

While we are pleased to have hired 15 new drivers throughout the past few months and provide consistent service for most students living two miles from their school, we are not yet fully staffed. As you may already know, we are working through a national bus driver shortage. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to do everything possible to safely and efficiently meet the increase in student ridership while aggressively addressing our driver shortage.

Perhaps one of the most important questions we continue to receive is how parents can help. If you registered your child for transportation and no longer need it, please make sure to go back into Skyward and select ‘No’ for transportation. This is very important as it allows us to open seats to students who need the services.

At this time and until we have more bus drivers, newly-registered students will be placed on a waitlist if their assigned route is full. Students who registered for transportation but do not use district services for ten days will be dropped to allow students who are in need to receive transportation. This will start today, Tuesday, September 5 with the 10th day being September 18. If you determine your child needs services at a later date, you will need to register again. While this may feel inconvenient, it is important that we are not holding seats for students who are not riding the bus when we have other students waiting for services.
